why aint there the same uproar?

remember when the iphone first came out last year?

the device debuted at $599 and the world complained about the ridiculously high price.  so much so that the uproar managed to resonate with apple—they dropped the price by $200.

with the new iphone 3G retailing for $199, there hasnt been that same uproar.

as many have pointed out, the monthly charge has gone up by $10/month.  if you factor SMS, which is not included for iphone 3G users, thats another $5/month (at least).  an additional $15/month over a 2-year contract adds up to a $360.  that extra $360 added onto the selling price of the iphone 3G adds up to $559, which is nearly as much as the first gen iphone originally cost.

so, why aint there the same uproar?

the iphone 3G is nearly as expensive as the original iphone when it debuted, though not immediately up front.  yet, the public is “okay” with it.

have people bought into the “half the price” marketing lie*? are people more forgiving to ass-raping when raped in small installments over long periods of time? is the 3G just that worth it to people?
